He Cares: Community Involvement, Common Sense/ Common Purpose
THE TRUE TEST OF ANY CANDIDATE'S CHARACTER
and whether they are running for the the right reasons, can be found by taking a very careful look at how much and what type of volunteer work they have done over their entire career, prior to seeking political office. Is it thankless, difficult, nothing-in-it-for them type work? Very "vague" in listing any specific tasks, goals or positions?or did it always seem to look like something that was mostly of benefit to themselves?
Joining elitist, social-networking Boards and never rolling up their sleeves or getting dirty - volunteering strictly to meet movers and shakers for eg - is not exactly the same thing as pitching in to work on bottle drives, coaching youth for long hours late at night, organizing a new community initiative and so on.
We invite you to compare Jon's lifetime track record of thousands and thousands of volunteer hours on many different and difficult start-ups, community initiatives, advocacy groups, and charity efforts, long before he ever sought political office. It is clear that Jon sought political office to do a better and more effective job, of what he was already doing almost full-time as a volunteer: helping people, building community, working to make a difference.
Jon has made numerous contributions to his community and many others both in the City and elsewhere. He has worked thousands of hours as a volunteer over his entire career, right from the beginning, often doing hard thankless tasks that no one else would tackle ( organizations listed below) He has also contributed a great deal of time, money and advice to hundreds of people and other organizations over the years, long before he got into politics.
Most importantly - his own personal money!
For a list of organizations that Jon has helped support either personally or through Casablanca Video, check below. Contributions also include: Helping other people save money as well....eg. Taxpayers. ( Jon was nominated for the “Canadian Tax Fighter of the Year” to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation)
