It’s not unusual, for the conditions, personal growth, and development, to be met with a certain amount of sighing and an expression of ‘been there done that’! We have been studying the idea since we’re in college and we have been working on it since forever. So, what’s going to be different about this one?
Well, for starters I’m not going to be discussing the conventional idea. Second, I am a believer in skill development. When it is not taking you beforehand, it does not matter. No matter the subject, it should add value. Otherwise, it belongs in the bin. So let us familiarise ourselves with what really goes into the entire process of personal growth and growth.
Understanding Personal Development and Growth
- It refers to the accumulation of life skills that enable a person to live a productive and satisfying life.
- PERSONAL Development and PERPersonalityvelopment are two quite different things!
- It entails setting attainable goals and using problem-solving strategies that can allow you to attain growth.
A very crucial point is, Personal development, unlike character development, can’t be inculcated. It can’t be provided to you in a beautifully wrapped gift basket or as a 4 week program! You’re your only hope so far as personal development is concerned.
This is because it’s a lifelong process. With each new obstacle, you will get a new skill and that skill will result in more growth and advancement. Although there’s no set path on the best way best to achieve personal development (because it’s subjective), I will point out the actions that it involves.
Markers for Personal Development & Growth
1. Improved self-awareness
You get a better understanding of yourself. Your strength, weakness, skills and also what is beyond your abilities.
2. Greater self-knowledge
It is something to be aware and a completely different thing to understand. When we undertake personal development, we’ve got the chance to get to know ourselves better. Because the fact is, we know practically nothing about ourselves. Other people know more than we do! So it’s essential that we learn more about ourselves.
3. Learning new skills
You may pick up new skills, associated with your job or even to your private life. There’s an improvement of our skill set and we become adept in more ways.
4. Improving existing skills
It’s not always about learning new things. Every now and then, the armour that’s already in the arsenal has to be sharpened. You already learnt a lot through the years. Now, get on to making them better.
5. Identifying potential
I am speaking about these hidden talents. Maybe even suppressed abilities. We all have a truckload of these. It’s critical to bring them out of the cupboard.
Bear in mind, we can not be the best version of ourselves, unless and until we’re doing what we like to do. You could also have some abilities that you did not know about! We”ll be even better! Time to bring those into the forefront.
Personal development and growth aren’t something you can measure in quantifiable units constantly. However, the dimension in my view is straightforward.
Ask yourself, “Am I better than I was yesterday? Or am I still the same old?” The solution will determine the results of your decisions. So keep that on. Do not always consider success as the sole marker. Success is a fantastic marker, but certainly not the only one. You’re far more than your final success and your following failure.
